We are collecting video clips to help in our campaign.

What we want is personal videos of frozen pensioners. They can be shot on mobile phones, on camcorders, on digital cameras if they have video capability. They could also be done on web cams - many laptops now have them built in, and can be used with video capture programs such as Windows Movie Maker.

The duration should ideally be of not much more than 2 minutes and should show the pensioner in his/her own normal environment. We are not looking for high quality professionally produced video presentations. The message will be in the words and the situations. By all means prepare a script and rehearse it, but try to avoid any appearance of "reading". If you make a mistake don't worry so long as the message is clear. And look at the camera. This is particularly important for webcams, as you might tend to look at the screen instead of the lens.

Videos will be compiled into an endless tape for showing at conferences and seminars etc.

The P/R firm has suggested that you supply a transcript as well as the video itself.

Possible scenarios:

1. Finding it more difficult as "real" value of frozen pension diminishes. Considering returning to UK.

2. Emigrated to be with children and grandchildren. Pension has been frozen for 10 (say) years.

3. Grandmother in UK wants to be with her grandchildren but is afraid of the consequences of pension freezing. For the sake of realism you might ask "grandma" to make the video herself.

Our P/R consultants suggested

In terms of the messages that the video clips can carry, if they can include the following things that would be good:

4. Retired abroad because of family

5. Paid into the NI fund throughout working life

6. Frozen pension is unjust and unfair

If there are any other points they want to make, like their military service to the country, then that would be a bonus, but if they can at least mention those three things above then we will have a clear message going out.

You could mention that you still love your native country and do not understand why you are being treated this way in your old age.

Make up your own scenario, but please make it genuine. This is reality TV.

Send in your video by email, and please include a transcript if possible. Send emails to Contact BAPA

Larry This one is of Larry Webb, son of the late great June Borsberry. June lost 13 years of family life due to her fear of becoming financially dependent due to the freezing regime.

Larry says You can tell people that this amateur who has never done anything like this before did the whole thing within 4 days of receiving the initial request, using an ordinary Canon point-and-shoot camera; if I can do it, anyone can.

Dian This one illustrates how pensions are frozen when people spend time in an old loyal Commonwealth country for family reasons. Dian has now moved back to UK. The reasoning in it is instructive.

This one was sent in as a mpg file using Yousendit.
